FINAL REPORT VIIV Heath Care Challenge Fund 2020
The narrative progress report of the Challenge Fund Nepal 2020 implemented by Recovering Nepal outlines the key outcomes, which are:
• The project addressed the service gap (Harm Reduction Program) for women who inject drugs (WWID) in Nepal and supported gender equity.
• The project contributed 15% of the National HIV Strategic Targets for WWID.
• The project empowered community- and women-led organizations in three districts in three provinces.
• The project was able to successfully collaborate with the National Harm Reduction Program under the National Center for AIDS and Control (NCASC) and Save the Children/Global Fund.

Project Annual Report 2081/82
This Annual Report (August 2024 – July 2025) outlines the progress of the Community Led Comprehensive Harm Reduction Project and Primary Healthcare Services for Women Who Use Drugs (WWUD) in Nepal, implemented by Recovering Nepal (RN Women) with support from ViiV Healthcare's Harm Reduction Momentum Grant. Operating across Chitwan, Rupandehi, Makwanpur, and Banke districts, the initiative provides rights-based, gender-sensitive interventions including peer-led outreach, drop-in center services, HIV and Hepatitis C testing, primary healthcare check-ups, and the distribution of clean syringes and harm reduction commodities. Over the reported year, the project reached 926 WWUD (77% of its target), distributed over 32,000 syringes, provided medical check-ups to 222 beneficiaries, launched the online Recovering Nepal Information System (RNIS) for standardized data tracking, and drove national-level policy advocacy culminating in recognition from the Ministry of Home Affairs during the 2025 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

This Annual Progress Report (FY 2081/82 / 2024–2025) outlines the activities and achievements of Recovering Nepal (RN), the national federation representing people who use drugs and drug service organizations across all seven provinces. Key initiatives included the Global Fund Catalytic Project focused on removing human rights and gender-related barriers to HIV/TB services, the ViiV Healthcare Harm Reduction Momentum Grant delivering gender-responsive harm reduction and primary healthcare to Women Who Use Drugs (WWUD), and a pilot Chemsex Harm Reduction Project addressing sexualized drug use. Across these programs, RN engaged in extensive law and policy advocacy—such as pushing for the HIV Bill, decriminalization, and integrating harm reduction into Nepal Police training—while managing peer-led drop-in centers, distributing over 32,000 clean syringes, providing HIV/HCV testing and treatment referrals, establishing the online Recovering Nepal Information System (RNIS), and organizing national events like the International Day Against Drug Abuse.
